What it had to solve
Room-makeover videos are beloved but formulaic; the brief was to extend one creative platform across print, digital and social, reaching audiences beyond Fantastic Furniture's own channels.
How it works
A multi-part series with a drama-infused arc: each editor styled a living room from the latest ranges, audiences followed the rivalry across socials, explored and shopped the completed rooms on bhg.com.au and voted for a favourite to win a $5,000 gift card.
What it did
No results yet. The series reached Are Media's three-million-plus combined social community, launched in the November Better Homes and Gardens issue on sale September 24, 2026, and ran across the three brands' social and digital until the end of October.
Background
Fantastic Furniture and Are Media joined forces to launch 'Fantastic by Design', a short-form social series combining room styling, playful rivalry and audience participation. The multi-part series brings together talent from Are Media's weekly and lifestyle brands — Megan Osborne, editor of Better Homes and Gardens; Katherine Chatfield, editor of Woman's Day; and Celia Whitley, senior content producer at New Idea — each challenged to design a living room using Fantastic Furniture's latest furniture, accessories and décor ranges.
More than a traditional room transformation video, the series draws on the conventions of short-form drama to turn the creative process into a story, letting audiences follow the personalities, creative decisions and friendly rivalry behind each editorial brand — and, in Osborne's words, "choose a side and ultimately decide which room comes out on top." The campaign culminates in an interactive promotion on bhg.com.au where audiences explore the completed rooms, shop the featured products and vote for their favourite design for a chance to win a $5,000 Fantastic Furniture gift card.
CMO Melissa Monneron said working with three trusted content brands brings Fantastic Furniture to new audiences "through one entertaining story," showing how "the same versatile range can inspire three completely different creative outcomes." The series is live across socials, featured in the November issue of Better Homes and Gardens on sale September 24, 2026, and runs across the three brands' social and digital until the end of October.
Why it lands
Room transformations were already beloved content for Are Media's audiences; the series gave the format stakes and a story arc.
Three trusted brands and three distinct creative personalities created rivalry worth following across episodes.
Shopping and voting on bhg.com.au turned viewers into shoppers and voters, with a $5,000 prize.
One creative platform spanned print, digital and social for a single campaign.
What you can take
Bring your product experts in front of the camera: casting three editors with distinct personalities turned a furniture catalogue into an episodic rivalry audiences could pick sides in.
Since then
Live across socials from late September 2026 and featured in the November issue of Better Homes and Gardens, the campaign runs across Woman's Day, New Idea and Better Homes and Gardens social and digital until the end of October. No performance results reported.
