ASUS turns a laptop's keyboard deck into a second 14-inch OLED screen; the dual-display Zenbook DUO takes one of only 75 iF Gold trophies from 10,000+ entries.

What it had to solve
Mobile multitaskers had to pack a laptop and a separate portable monitor; ASUS's earlier ScreenPad touchpad screen was too small to work as a real display. The question became: why not make the entire lower half a screen?
How it works
For years, mobile multitasking meant a laptop plus a portable monitor. ASUS had tried a small secondary touchpad screen (ScreenPad), but it was never big enough to be a real display. The Zenbook DUO team made the opposite bet: give up the keyboard deck entirely and make the whole lower half a second 14-inch 3K OLED touchscreen, with a full-size detachable keyboard that clips between the panels when closed.
The design supports four modes — laptop (keyboard attached over the lower screen), dual-screen (two panels stacked vertically), desktop (two screens side by side in portrait) and sharing (the top panel rotated 180° to face a collaborator). ASUS's ScreenXpert software manages windows across the panels. At the iF Design Awards 2026 the jury praised the seamless integration and build quality, calling the machine 'the ultimate multitool' and awarding it one of only 75 Gold trophies out of more than 10,000 entries.
The idea was iterated across three model years, and the 2026 version's Gold win capped that run. Independent reviewers rated it 8/10, noting that two screens in one chassis solved the reference-while-working problem a single laptop cannot, at a starting price of US$1,699 for the 2025 model.

- The bet was structural: instead of adding an accessory, the team replaced the one component everyone assumed was fixed, so the product itself is the idea.

The Zenbook DUO line was refreshed for 2025 and 2026, and the 2026 model's iF Gold win crowned three years of iteration while ASUS took 26 further iF honours that year. The dual-screen form factor remains a niche, but it has pushed rivals such as Lenovo's Yoga Book 9i, turning a one-off product into a category question.
