创意是什么Make the car the filmmaker: a 13-minute thriller shot entirely with the IONIQ 5's seven integrated cameras, so the product's technology is the point of view, not a prop.伤筋动骨

当时的题目

Hyundai needed to make the tech-laden IONIQ 5 feel innovative to a generation that ignores conventional car advertising, with the film judged on its own merits.

它是怎么成立的

Hyundai and its agency Innocean had a technology-laden product — the IONIQ 5, with seven integrated cameras giving 360-degree coverage — and an audience that tunes out car commercials. Their answer was to stop advertising the car and instead let it make a movie. 'Night Fishing' is a 13-minute humanistic thriller about an agent (actor-producer Son Suk-ku) sent to a rural EV charging station to hunt a creature that steals electricity — shot entirely through the IONIQ 5's own cameras.

The constraint became the creative engine. Because the cameras were fixed, the team built the tension through a physically intense fight scene and moving drone lights. The film premiered in Korean cinemas at a ticket price of about 1,000 won (~$1), positioning it as entertainment rather than advertising. The unusual format — Hyundai called it a 'snack movie' — plus the novelty of a car-shot film drove word of mouth.

The campaign generated roughly 813 media articles, more than 20,000 organic consumer mentions, an estimated advertising value of KRW 13.7 billion, and Gen Z search interest close to double the average — all with no separate paid media budget. It screened at Sundance's ChefDance program and won Best Editing at Fantasia, then took the Entertainment Grand Prix at Cannes Lions 2025 plus Grand Prix at the Clio Awards and Spikes Asia 2025.

妙在哪

  • The car's own cameras were the filming method, so the demonstration of the product was the product itself.
  • A $1 theatrical release treated the audience as cinema-goers, not ad targets, generating curiosity and press.
  • A credible cast and director made the film stand on its merits at film festivals, not just awards shows.
  • Zero paid media forced and proved the idea's word-of-mouth strength.

可以借走的

A constraint can become the concept: seven fixed cameras forced the film to use the car's vision. When the product's capability is the medium, the ad demonstrates rather than claims.

后来

Night Fishing became the rare branded film judged as cinema: invited to international festivals, exhibited at Hyundai Motor Studio, and cited as the case that redefined branded entertainment. Innocean followed it with a second consecutive Cannes Grand Prix, cementing the 'make the product the medium' playbook for Hyundai's marketing.
