At X Summit Sydney on May 16, 2024, Fujifilm announced the X-T50 — and for the first time, a Film Simulation dial on the top plate.

The X-T50 is a compact 438g camera with a 40.2MP X-Trans CMOS 5 HR sensor and X-Processor 5, five-axis stabilization of up to 7.0 stops, and 6.2K/30P video. Its 20 Film Simulation modes, including the new REALA ACE, are directly on the dial, so stills and video change look with one turn, before or during shooting.

The idea was to borrow the gesture language of classic cameras — the way ISO and shutter speed each have their own dial — and apply it to color. Fujifilm's announcement says the dial lets users 'easily switch between Film Simulations... providing the joy of photography even more'.

The dial immediately became a family feature: in October 2024 the X-M5 shipped as the second Fujifilm camera with a Film Simulation dial, adding four custom slots for personal 'film recipes', at a time when compact Fujifilm cameras like the X100VI were selling out.
