Westfield and Australian Red Cross Lifeblood wanted to make giving blood as easy as Christmas shopping, hosting 'The Most Magical Gift Shop' at Westfield Sydney.

An immersive pop-up on Level 5 of Westfield Sydney ran 4-26 December 2023, built to take up to 100 donations a day across eight blood donation stations, with private pre-donation interview rooms and a refreshment space; appointments booked via westfield.com.au/lifeblood, 9am-6pm daily.

The stated goal: 2,200 Westfield donors this Christmas, each donation saving up to three lives — up to 6,600 lives; donors left with a symbolic reminder of their gift to put under the Christmas tree.

In December 2023, Westfield collaborated with Australian Red Cross Lifeblood to present 'The Most Magical Gift Shop', developed with whiteGREY, urging Sydneysiders to become blood donors at Christmas.

The insight was logistical: Christmas is when blood donations are critically needed and when mall traffic peaks, so the pop-up made it possible to do Christmas shopping and give a life-saving donation in one place. Hosted at Westfield Sydney, the custom-built, immersive space targeted 2,200 donors for the season, with each donation carrying the potential to save up to three lives.

The build was genuinely operational rather than symbolic: capacity for up to 100 donations per day, eight blood donation stations, private pre-donation interview rooms and a refreshment space. Donors left with a symbolic reminder of their gift to put under the Christmas tree.

Scentre Group's Jacqui Waine framed the stakes: 'We know Christmas is a busy time of year for our customers, so we hope that by making it easier to shop and donate in one go, together we can help save up to 6,600 lives.' The pop-up ran daily from Monday 4 December to Tuesday 26 December on Level 5, with bookings through westfield.com.au/lifeblood.

The venue is the idea: a mall owner donating its most valuable floor space turns retail traffic into blood supply without any media spend.

The Christmas gift-shop framing converts an inconvenient medical errand into a seasonal ritual with a takeaway gift.

The capacity targets (100 donations a day, 2,200 donors, 6,600 lives) made a brand experiential project accountable in health-system units.

It extends Lifeblood's string of demand-side stunts (emotion tests, football guernseys) by attacking the supply-side constraint: location and timing.

The best donation mechanic is friction removal: put the clinic inside the traffic, and wrap the ask in the season's own ritual — gift-wrapping a life saved.

The pop-up ran 4-26 December 2023; the source records the donor goal and potential lives saved, not the final tally.
