Teachers Mutual Bank Limited — one of Australia's largest customer-owned banks, spanning fire, health, teaching and university divisions — had served essential workers for years but had no digital-bank brand of its own.

VMLY&R, the bank's partner since 2016, built the connected brand ecosystem end to end — business casing, experience vision, proposition, CX and brand experience design, go-to-market plan and the launch campaign 'The Betterers' Bank', live from 5 October 2021.

Hiver launched as the newest addition to the largest customer-owned bank in Australia, offering 24/7 banking, personal financial management tools and essential-worker benefits such as 1% cashback on grocery and public transport purchases and bonus saver interest. No adoption figures were reported.

On 5 October 2021, VMLY&R and Teachers Mutual Bank announced the public launch of Hiver, a new digital-bank brand and the latest addition within Teachers Mutual Bank Limited — one of the largest customer-owned banks in Australia, whose four divisions (Firefighters Mutual Bank, Health Professional Bank, Teachers Mutual Bank and UniBank) support essential workers and their families.

VMLY&R, working with the bank since 2016, built the connected brand ecosystem from the ground up: from business casing and experience vision through proposition, customer experience and brand experience design, to the go-to-market plan and creative campaign. Hiver's own research found that 87% of Australia's essential workers agree they did not choose their profession for the money, but because they want to help other people — the insight that anchored the launch campaign, 'The Betterers' Bank'.

Hiver provides safe, simple 24/7 banking with personal financial management tools and essential-worker benefits like 1% cashback on grocery and public transport purchases and bonus interest on saver accounts. CMO Nichole Banks called launching a digital bank 'a natural progression'; VMLY&R CCO Paul Nagy described the project as establishing 'an entirely new identity' for the newest edition to the portfolio.

The positioning is an audience identity, not a feature list: a bank for people who chose purpose over pay.

A full-stack brand build — business casing through go-to-market — documented end to end by one agency.

The benefits map to the audience's daily life: cashback on groceries and public transport, not airport lounges.

A sub-brand works when it names the audience's self-image, not the product: workers who 'didn't choose the money' get a bank built on that identity.

The launch campaign went live on 5 October 2021 to raise awareness and encourage app downloads; the source reports no adoption figures.
