What it had to solve
Wild Isle Gin is the sixth release of Four Pillars' Distiller Series, created in partnership with New Zealand boutique distillery Island Gin, each gin unique to a partner's home, botanicals and techniques.
How it works
Weave — creative partner across all six Distiller gins — designed the label and art direction: a custom illustration spanning forests and oceans in yellow-toned hues, with glow-in-the-dark details, drawing on botanicals including seaweed, saltwater and manuka honey from Great Barrier Island.
What it did
No commercial results reported; the release extended a six-instalment collectible series.
Background
Four Pillars' Distiller Series pairs the Australian gin maker with a different boutique distillery each release, each gin built from that partner's home, botanicals and techniques. For the sixth instalment, Wild Isle Gin, the partner was New Zealand's Island Gin and the place was Great Barrier Island — expressed in seaweed, saltwater and manuka honey.
Long-time creative partner Weave translated the island into a label with a split personality: a custom illustration spanning rainforest and ocean that reads one way by day and another by night, its glow-in-the-dark details delivering the 'discovery by night' half. 'We wanted the label to capture a sense of discovery to reflect NZ's Great Barrier Island where the gin's key botanicals originated from,' said Weave creative director Darren Song, 'while remaining unmistakenly Four Pillars.'
The consistency is the point: 'Our Distiller Series is one of our longest-running series and Weave has been our creative partner across all six gins now,' said brand manager Millie Friend — a studio-side ritual of translating each partner distillery's home into a collectible label, following instalments like Spice Trade Gin and Changing Seasons Gin.
Why it lands
The glow mechanism isn't decoration — it embodies the island's day/night duality that defines the gin's origin story.
Continuity compounds: the same studio translating six partner distilleries turned a label programme into a collectible series.
Botanicals led the art — seaweed, saltwater and manuka honey made Great Barrier Island, not the brand, the protagonist.
What you can take
A series survives on a fixed translation ritual: one studio, one brief — make the partner's home legible — repeated until it becomes collectible.
Since then
Released September 2025 as the sixth Distiller Series instalment, following Spice Trade Gin and Changing Seasons Gin.
