Budweiser turns songs that name it into Spotify ads; UninterruptAds wins El Ojo Grand Prix

Instead of interruptive Spotify ads, Budweiser served songs that name it in lyrics as genre-matched ads — 40k reached/hour, 20M+ views, El Ojo Gran Ojo.

Budweiser (AmBev Brasil) · Africa Creative

The ideaInstead of ads that interrupt music, Budweiser turned the 500+ songs whose lyrics already mention it into genre-matched Spotify ads — the music itself is the message.substantial

What it had to solve

Most Brazilians use free, ad-supported Spotify, where commercial breaks interrupt the music. Budweiser had been name-dropped in over 500 songs for years; the brand wanted credit without adding one more interruption.

How it works

In Brazil, most Spotify users rely on the free tier, where ads constantly break the music. Budweiser's agency Africa Creative noticed something else: more than 500 songs on the platform already mention Budweiser in their lyrics — free cultural promotion the brand never paid for.

The idea, UninterruptAds, turned that accident into a media plan. Each song mentioning Budweiser was served as an ad on Spotify, placed inside playlists matching the track's own genre, so the brand message arrived as music the listener already likes — with a simple red-on-white branded frame as the only ad signal.

The campaign ran from April 2024 in Brazil, and a 40-second film explained the mechanics. Because the ad was the song itself, there was nothing to skip and no interruption to resent.

It reached more than 40,000 people per hour, drew 20M+ social views at 99% positive sentiment, and generated 8x more earned than paid media. At El Ojo de Iberoamérica 2024 it won the Gran Ojo for Radio & Audio, plus golds and silvers in Content, Digital & Social and Media.

Why it lands

  • It turned an existing cultural fact — hundreds of songs name-dropping the brand — into a working media plan.
  • The ad and the content were the same thing, so there was literally nothing to skip or interrupt.
  • Genre-matched placement made each ad feel relevant instead of imposed.
  • It gave the brand credit for years of name-drops without buying interruptive inventory — earned media ran 8x ahead of paid.

What it did

Reached over 40,000 people per hour during the campaign, drew 20M+ social views at 99% positive sentiment, and generated 8x more earned than paid media; won the Gran Ojo (Grand Prix) in Radio & Audio at El Ojo 2024, plus golds and silvers in other categories.

What you can take

The least interruptive ad is one the audience already chose to hear: instead of buying attention, find the cultural content that already carries your brand and serve it as the ad.

Since then

UninterruptAds collected multiple El Ojo 2024 wins beyond the Radio & Audio Gran Ojo — golds and silvers in Content, Digital & Social, Media, and Audio Production — and became a reference case for non-interruptive audio advertising in Latin America. Budweiser kept making music the center of its audio work in the seasons that followed.
